Advisors
Retired consultants, recently retired.
Every assessment is made by someone who practised in the relevant specialty and no longer has anything to gain from it.
The model
Four conditions, applied without exception.
- Consultants, not generalists
- Each advisor held a consultant post in the specialty they advise on. A question about a particular procedure goes to someone who performed it, not to someone who has read about it.
- Recently retired
- Advisors are within roughly five years of active practice. Far enough out to be free of commercial entanglement; recent enough that their judgement reflects how the field works now rather than how it worked once.
- Free of interest
- Advisors hold no financial interest in any provider they might discuss and accept no payment from one. They are paid by Colverston, at a rate unaffected by what they conclude.
- Matched, then disclosed
- The advisor is chosen for the question. The client is told who that is, with full credentials, before any engagement begins.
Selection
How advisors are appointed.
We look for a substantive record in the specialty rather than a prominent one, review regulatory standing in the United Kingdom and, where relevant, elsewhere in Europe, and confirm the absence of current commercial ties to providers.
Advisors are engaged individually, for the assessments they are suited to. Nobody here advises across a whole field because they happen to be the person available.
The role
What an advisor is, and is not.
An advisor brings specialist judgement to bear on a decision that the client and their treating clinician will make. That is the whole of the role.
An advisor forms no clinical relationship with the client, does not examine them, does not prescribe, and does not become their doctor. Clinical responsibility rests with the treating clinician at every point.
Publication
Why no names appear here.
We publish no advisor biographies, photographs, or credentials. Prospective clients are told exactly who would be advising them, in full, before they commit to anything — but that is a matter between us and them, not an advertisement.
A retired consultant's name on a marketing page is an asset to the firm displaying it. That is not what we engaged them for.
